Primary School applications
Your child will be eligible for a Primary School place from September 2023, if they were born between:
1st September 2018; and 31st August 2019.
You will be able to make your application from 17th November 2023 until the closing date of 15th January 2024.
Offers of Primary School places for September 2024 will be made on 16th April 2024.
Starting school is one of the most important milestones in a child's life and it is important that the right school is chosen for your child.
If your child is due to start school, appointments can be made through the school office to meet with the Headteacher and have a tour of our school.
These appointments can be made from October to December; the year before your child is due to begin school
We do not hold special open days - we like prospective parents to see the school in action on a 'typical' day! These appointments are for parents to view the school and ask the Headteacher any questions; it is not usually appropriate for children to attend as this can be daunting. The children will get opportunities to visit their school once a place has been allocated.
We admit up to 30 pupils each year into our Reception class. Once a place has been allocated at school, we will invite parents to an information evening to explain everything that you and your child will need to know before they begin. Children and parents/carers will be invited to join us for lunch one day and children will also be able to visit their new class and teacher before September. These events happen in June and July.

Admissions to school in Years 1-6 (In-Year Transfers)
Barkisland School works with the Local Authority and other local schools to manage admissions to our school in Years 1 to 6. These are known as In-Year Transfers. If you are interested in applying for a place at our school, please contact the Admissions team at Calderdale Local Authority who will advise you on availability and how an application is made.
