Our vision of We Believe, We Nurture, We Succeed for Science at Barkisland ensures that all children understand the world around them and their place within it. Science is everywhere and everything; it has changed our lives and is vital to the world's future prosperity, therefore all pupils are taught the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. All knowledge, understanding and skills are progressive and developmental, as demonstrated in our progression documents.

Previous and future learning is built upon and prepared for, as children build up a body of key foundational knoweldge and concepts, recognising the power of rational explanation. Through their science lessons, children are excited and curious about natural phenomena, and are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occuring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. Science Week, which is woven into the school year, is tailored to our pupils and their needs and aspirations.

Through our science curriculum, children are nurtured and supported to develop their skills to succeed in their learning. Children undertake their lessons with the confidence and belief that they will succeed.
