PE
Vision
At Barkisland C of E (VA) Primary School we recognise the importance Physical Education plays in the curriculum and wider-life of the school. Through the teaching of PE and extra—curricular activities, we are committed to providing all children with opportunities to succeed and develop a love of physical activity and sport.
Physical Education at Barkisland promotes our school vision of ‘We Believe, We Nurture, We Succeed’; taking a whole-child approach, we aim to nurture confident, resilient children who believe in themselves and strive for their personal best. We listen to our pupil’s wants and needs and provide them with a range of active experiences and clubs, giving opportunities to build individual and team-work skills. We aim to aid our children in obtaining the values and skills to celebrate and respect the success of others, as well as modestly celebrating their own successes. We take an inclusive approach so that all pupils are able to succeed. We strive to educate both our children and families to develop a greater understanding on how to live healthy lifestyles and make healthy choices. We are dedicated to ensuring healthy minds, as well as bodies and will continue to support our children's well-being. We have strong links with local clubs and partnerships within our community to ensure the children and families receive the support and knowledge they need.
Curriculum
Get Set 4 PE is a scheme that we purchased in Spring term 2022. Our Get Set 4 PE curriculum has been written with careful consideration of the aims of the National Curriculum and our school vision ‘We Believe, We Nurture, We Succeed’, to ensure that children are given a wealth of opportunities to develop their physical skills, as well as developing the whole child.
Each lesson plan has progressive activities that are designed to inspire and engage pupils, allowing them to explore and develop skills and embed knowledge. Furthermore, lessons are aimed to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience, develop critical thinkers, be successful and be challenged. The lessons are accompanied by supporting resources including resource cards, skills videos and music. Teaching points appear throughout to help teachers with their subject knowledge and differentiation tasks provide activities with simple changes to appropriately challenge all of your pupils.
Daily Mile
All children (and classroom staff) take part in our Daily Mile. We use our bespoke running track encouraging children to get active for 10 minutes a day. This keeps our children's minds and bodies fit and healthy!
