  • Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to Barkisland CE (VA) Primary School’s website!

This site aims to give you a taster of the many and varied activities that our children take part in over the school year and also gain an overview of the ethos and Christian values which we uphold.  It also is a place where you will find important information, newsletters, community links and policies.

Barkisland is a Church of England Primary School with close links with Christ Church, our Parish Church.  We are proud of our distinctive Christian character which is embedded in all that we do.  The school places an importance on community involvement and we actively encourage and thoroughly enjoy taking part in many events within the local community.

At Barkisland we believe that children thrive in an environment where they are happy, secure, challenged and supported.  Our highly dedicated staff team are fully committed to providing every child with an exciting and stimulating education in order for them to reach their full potential. We have extremely high expectations in all aspects of school life where we foster excellent relationships between each other that are built upon mutual respect.  We have 10 core values which spell out our school name: Believe, Aspire, Respect, Koinonia, Inclusive, Success, Love, Achieve, Nurture and Dream.  These values support us in the way in which we conduct ourselves both inside and outside of school.

The children at Barkisland Primary are taught in single age classes, we have 7 seven classes from Reception year to Year 6. Our fabulous school hall was built in 2012 which has been a valuable asset to the school building.  We have also developed the school buildings and facilities greatly over the past few years: a new roof, newly refurbished pupil toilets, a new kitchen for cooking school lunches, re-wiring, LED lighting and heating upgrades. The playground and facilities outside have also been inproved with the addition of a trim trail, MUGA, outdoor classroom and play facilities.

During our last OFSTED inspection and our Church Schools Inspection (SIAMS) we were deemed to be an outstanding school - which we are extremely proud of.  We are also an ‘Investors in Pupils’ School, a ‘Healthy School’ and have many many pupil vocie committees.

Our aim is to equip our children with the skills and knowledge necessary for their future lives. I look forward to working with you, your children and the community to make our aim a reality.

Barkisland is a very special place to work, learn and grow!  I hope that this website gives you a sense of just that.

If you are a prospective parent, please telephone the school to make an appointment to see the school in action!
